Sea of Cortez Whale Shark & Culinary Escape
5 Days, 4 Nights, Motorcoach (or Sprinter) / Boat Tour.
Tucked along the Sea of Cortez, the body of water Jacques Cousteau famously called “the world’s aquarium”, La Paz is one of the few places on earth where travelers can swim alongside juvenile whale sharks in protected, federally regulated waters. Set against the desert mountains of southern Baja, this small, refined program pairs intimate marine encounters with the quieter pleasures of the region: a UNESCO-listed island reserve, an artists’ town across the cape, an artisanal cooking experience, and a night of stargazing on the beach. Come join us on this unforgettable small-group adventure.

Tour Breakdown
Arrive into La Paz International Airport (LAP), where a private transfer whisks you to your boutique beachfront hotel overlooking the bay. The afternoon is yours, settle in with a spa treatment, a swim, or a sunset stroll along the malecón. This evening, gather for a welcome dinner at the water’s edge as your tour manager introduces the days ahead and briefs the group on the gentle giants waiting offshore.
Dinner
After an early breakfast, transfer to the marina to meet your licensed marine naturalists. Board a small boat into the protected waters of the Bay of La Paz, the winter feeding grounds of juvenile whale sharks, the largest fish in the sea, yet entirely harmless as they glide through the plankton-rich shallows. In small, federally regulated groups, slip into the water beside them and learn about their migration, their feeding behavior, and the ongoing conservation work that protects this extraordinary population. Return to shore for a relaxed seaside lunch and an afternoon at leisure. This evening, a curated tasting at a local mezcalería, offers an introduction to the spirits and flavors of the region.

Snorkel in sheltered bays, observe the resident colony of playful sea lions at close range, and take in the coastal ecology interpretation provided by your guide. Lunch is a beach picnic laid out on the sand. Return to La Paz mid-afternoon, with the evening reserved for a curated dining experience in town.

Depart this morning on a scenic drive through desert-coastal landscapes to the artists’ town of Todos Santos, an hour south of La Paz. Walk the historic center, explore the 18th-century mission and a handful of celebrated galleries, then step into a working artisanal studio for a hands-on printmaking or textile workshop. Lunch is a leisurely farm-to-table meal in town before the return drive to La Paz. This evening: a market-to-table cooking experience, a stop at the local market (timing permitting), hands-on preparation of classic Baja dishes, and a communal farewell dinner featuring the meal you’ve created together. The night closes on the beach, under the famously dark Sea of Cortez sky, for a stargazing experience.
