Coffee and Vanilla Experience Tour

A fascinating gastronomical and cultural experience in the enchanting towns of Papantla and Coatepec in the State of Veracruz along with local gems of Mexico City.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Mexico City

Arrive in Mexico City and transfer to the hotel. Welcome cocktail this afternoon to meet the rest of the group.

Day 2 - Mexico City

After breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the Museum of Anthropology. Without a doubt, the most important museum in Mexico displays the treasures of the pre-Spanish civilizations. Lunch at a local restaurant. During the afternoon, we will visit the Palace of Fine Arts.  Welcome dinner. (B L D)  

Day 3 - Papantla and Tajin

Breakfast this morning at the hotel and departure for Papantla, a place with a local fragrant flavor, has held onto the charm and wisdom of its pre-Hispanic origins, while its air is scented with the sweet aroma of vanilla. Arriving for lunch to taste the Totonaca regional cuisine. During the afternoon, we will visit the Takilhsukut park and learn the Totonaca traditions with the region’s elders. Check-in at the hotel and overnight (B L)

Day 4 - Papantla – Tajin

Enjoy breakfast this morning and depart for the archeological site of Tajin, a remarkable achievement of Totonaca culture and one of the most important religious centers in Mesoamerica. Today you will become an expert on vanilla (Xanath) as we visit the vanilla sanctuary and test all of its products. We will also have the opportunity to experience a culinary delight of indigenous cuisine cooked over an open fire. Return to Papantla for overnight (B L)

Day 5 - PAPANTLA – COATEPEC

Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will visit the Roma coffee plantation and learn about the cultivation and production of coffee with a local expert. We will also visit the 400-year-old Hacienda de los Remedios and learn about the craft of processing coffee beans. Lunch today will be at this Hacienda and include traditional regional food. Back to your hotel in Coatepec and later this afternoon you will enjoy a walking tour of this “Pueblo Mágico.” Dinner on your own and overnight. (B L)

Day 6 - Coatepec

Breakfast at the hotel this morning. Today we will be visiting a Finca (Estate) specialized in coffee production to learn about the cultivation and the different varieties. We will also visit the old 400-year Hacienda of “Our lady of the Remedies” to learn about the crafting of the coffee and enjoy a delicious lunch. Our itinerary will bring us to the state capital, Xalapa, a city of cheerful atmosphere (aka) The City of Flowers. We will visit the Archaeological Museum of Xalapa, home to a fascinating collection of Olmec pieces, including the Colossal Olmeca Heads. Return to Coatepec for overnight (B L)

Day 7 - Coatepec -Xico

Today, our program will take us to the Samal city of Xico, a Magical Town with cobblestone streets and colonial houses. This town is located in a cloud forest that contains a unique ecosystem. For lunch today, we will enjoy regional dishes. This evening we will return to Coatepec and enjoy a coffee bar that is the specialty of the town, a walking city tour, and overnight (B L) 

Day 8 – Coatepec -Puebla

After breakfast, we depart for the city of Puebla, driving about 120 miles back up to the high country. The city of Puebla, the capital of the state with the same name, was founded in 1531, becoming an important trading center during the colonial era. UNESCO considers Puebla one of Mankind’s World Heritage sites for its architectural treasures, traditions, and tasty cuisine. Overnight in Puebla. (B L).

Day 9 – Puebla – Mexico City

We will depart after breakfast and visit CHOLULA, a city that once was one of the most powerful provinces in the country and still is home to the largest ancient pyramid on the continent. The Great Pyramid of Tlachihualtepetl. We will depart after lunch to arrive in Mexico City by the afternoon, check-in at the hotel, and enjoy our farewell dinner (B D)

Day 10 – Return flight home

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the airport. (B)
